About Miami
Miami is internationally known as the Gateway to Latin America and the
Caribbean. The close proximity of the Caribbean and the Central and
South American regions combined with advanced seaport and airport facilities
make Miami an extraordinary global trading center. In addition to the
trade advantages, Miami's lush tropical climate and cosmopolitan environment
create an excellent location for U.S. immigration.
Greater Miami includes all
of Miami-Dade County, more than 2,000 square miles with 84 miles of
coast and approximately 2 million residents. Year 2000 census figures
indicate that persons of Hispanic origin represent approximately 57%
of Greater Miami's total population, and the remaining population is
comprised of African Americans, "Caucasians" and other groups,
all of which makes ours a lively, colorful, and exciting place to live,
play, and work in the twenty-first century!
Comfortable, relatively affordable
housing throughout the area is readily available. The area offers plenty
of opportunities for work and entrepreneurial enterprise. In addition,
the State of Florida has no state income tax, the Greater Miami area
does not have city or personal income tax or local corporate income
tax and offers homeowners with Florida residency property tax breaks.
The cost of living is lower than in many other major cities in the country
including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.
Miami is proud of its expansive
educational opportunities. With one of the nation's largest public education
systems, it boasts public schools attended by our inhabitants of all
backgrounds; "magnet" schools within the public system that
offer specialized academic and arts programs; approximately 70 private
schools; and more than 40 institutes of higher learning.
The plethora of banking institutions
located in the Greater Miami area are a boon to business in our community.
Banks of all types, including commercial banks, savings and loans institutions,
and international banks, provide convenient financial services to individuals
and companies with interests in our community and abroad.
